Dr. John C. Baldwin has extensive expertise in the biotechnology, bioengineering, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries. He is a noted cardiothoracic surgeon and has been instrumental in launching several pharmaceutical and medical device companies, including Alexion Pharmaceuticals and Novacor (acquired by Baxter). As a medical director for Fluidnet, Dr. Baldwin guides the company in the use of its infusion products in underserved areas around the world.
Dr. Baldwin received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, studied at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and received his M.D. from Stanford University. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Baldwin has retained appointments at Stanford, Yale, Baylor College of Medicine, and several other leading institutions. A pioneer in surgical transplant technique, Dr. Baldwin performed the first successful human transplantation of lung tissue procured at long distance in 1986 while at Stanford, and the first successful "auto-transplant" of a human heart while at Baylor. He is widely published and serves on the editorial board of several medical journals. Dr. Baldwin has been cited for his work in the field of cardiothoracic surgery by the Woodward and White national survey of The Best Doctors in America every year since its inception in 1992.
